Spray Dryer Evaporator
(SDE) System
Alstom’s SDE technology
provides a proven method
for meeting stringent
waste water discharge
regulations for new
and existing power plants
Efficient and cost-effective elimination
of plant process waste water
Power plants and industrial facilities are subject to increasingly stringent
environmental regulations with new legislation focusing on the discharge
of waste water. Alstom’s SDE system a is true Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD)
technology which means that, since there is no effluent liquid stream, the need
for monitoring and reporting is eliminated.
The SDE system employs hot flue gas to evaporate waste water in an Alstom spray
dryer. The dissolved or suspended solids in the waste water are dried and collected in
existing particulate collection equipment (a fabric filter or an electrostatic precipitator)
for co-disposal with fly ash. As lime is added to condition the waste water feed stream
prior to introduction to the spray dryer, partial capture of acid gases in the flue gas
is an added benefit of this process.
The technology is already working successfully. A 900 MW coal-fired power plant
in the USA is currently using the SDE system to successfully dispose
of all of the WFGD waste water.

•tThe technology eliminates the need
for waste water permits, monitoring
and reporting.
•tAlstom has 35+ years of experience with
atomisation systems – from the early
dual-fluid design to the latest flex shaft
rotary design.
•tSimple, cost-effective design.
KEY DIFFERENTIATORS
Lime conditioning offers acid gas capture
co-benefit and mitigates downstream
corrosion.
