AIR QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEMS
Innovative solutions
For the non-ferrous metal industry
ALSTOM is a global leader
in air quality control
systems (AQCS) with
over 80 years experience
in supplying gas cleaning
plants for various
industries.
Converting years of experience
into customised solutions
Alstom’s AQCS activity started with the establishment of Fläkt Industry AB at Växjö
in Sweden in the early 1900s. Since then, thousands of air quality control projects
have been executed for different types of processes and our technology has been
used in over 400 installations at more than 100 non-ferrous smelters worldwide.
By combining in-depth knowledge of the process with data collected from the field
on operations such as drying, roasting, smelting, converting, slag cleaning and fire
refining, we have been able to deliver air quality control solutions to the non-ferrous
industry that satisfy every type of demand.
As a large multinational corporation, we also have the advantage of being able to
integrate global experience with local competency to provide tailor-made solutions
involving equipment supply to turnkey installations, depending on customer
requirements.

FABRIC FILTERS – PROVIDING THE BEST
IN CLASS TECHNOLOGY
Depending on the process, our fabric
filters are used for cleaning the primary
and secondary flue gases in the
non-ferrous industry.
The availability of filter media capable
of withstanding aggressive substances
and high temperatures has extended
the range of applications for fabric filters.
The gas temperature, moisture content,
dew point, electrostatic charge, chemical
aggressiveness and the wearing properties
of the dust all affect the choice of filter
material. Based on existing process
conditions, our
experts select the
optimal fabric
filter design and
filter material for
each individual
process.
ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS (ESP)
– IMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENT
Alstom is the market leader in gas
cleaning systems for flash smelting
furnaces. Alstom’s ESPs are workng in
i
the copper, zinc, lead and nickel industries.
Our ESP technology has been used
in hun reds of installations all over the
d
world working in different non-ferrous
metallurgical processes.
We offer differentiated ESP designs
for various processes and aim to find the
most cost-effective solution which delivers
maximum year-round operation with
minimum maintenance.
WET FLUE GAS DESULPHURISATION (WFGD)
– EMISSIONS COMPLIANCE GUARANTEED
Our latest Open Spray Tower (OST) design
delivers worldwide emissions compliance
over a wide range of applications,
including high-sulphur fuels.
SO2 and other acid gases like HCl and HF
are removed from the off-gases at
the WFGD stage by the continuous
introduction of a low-cost limestone slurry
sprayed upward and downward through
the absorber vessel. The process ensures
a 92-99% reduction of SO2 emissions.
