GUIDED BORING - 308A/339A SYSTEM

Akkerman's Guided Boring Machine (GBM) method, often

nnnn

referred to as pilot tube microtunneling, offers customers

nnnn

extended and accurate drive lengths in various ground

nnnn

conditions. The GBM provides the spoil removal process of

nnnn

the auger boring machine and the same level of accuracy as

nnnn

traditional microtunneling—all in one compact, multifaceted

nnnn

system.

nnnn

The 308A/339A Jacking Frames allows operators to install

nnnn

pipe from an 8 or 9-foot (2.4/2.7 m) shaft. Our distinctive

nnnn

dual-walled pilot tube allows liquid lubrication throughout

nnnn

installation, thus minimizing jacking force and rotational

nnnn

torque. A guidance system consisting of a theodolite and

nnnn

digital camera, mounted behind the jacking frame, allow

nnnn

operators to view the illuminated LED target on a computer-

nnnn

controlled digital monitor in the launch pit, ensuring that line

nnnn

and grade tolerances are met. The 308A/339A systems are

nnnn

hydraulically powered with a P100Q or P150Q Power Pack and

nnnn

controlled with an in-shaft pendant.

nnnn

The guided boring method is typically a multi-step process.

nnnn

First, pilot tubes, with a soil appropriate steering head mounted

nnnn

on the front, establish line and grade. For non-displaceable

nnnn

spoil, the Eliminator acts as the lead tool in the progression.

nnnn

Next, the bore diameter is increased as the casings and augers

nnnn

excavate the soils. In the last step, the final product pipe is

nnnn

installed directly behind the casings and augers. As pilot tubes,

nnnn

casings and augers, then final product pipe is installed and

nnnn

advanced, a section is removed from the reception shaft. This

nnnn

process continues until the final product pipe is in place. If a

nnnn

Powered Cutter Head (PCH) or Powered Reaming Head (PRH) is

nnnn

used, it is placed behind the casings and augers and before the

nnnn

final product pipe.The auger spoil flow is reversed toward the

nnnn

reception shaft for removal. The PRH or PCH's rotating cutter

nnnn

bits excavate the soil to the pipe diameter while minimizing

nnnn

jacking force and accelerating the speed of the drive.
