PIPE JACKING - EXCAVATOR SHIELDS
nnnnFor 96- 168 inch (2,438 - 4,267 mm) OD tunneling and pipe
nnnnjacking applications, Akkerman Excavator Shields are a proven
nnnnpartner. Excavator Shields differ from the Tunnel Boring
nnnnMachine (TBM) in that they do not have a cutter head or rotating
nnnndrum, and excavate spoils with a backhoe-type excavator.
nnnnThe excavator and control console easily transfer between
nnnndifferent sized shields. Excavator Shields are appropriate for
nnnntraditional pipe jacking, liner plate and ring-beam and lagging
nnnntunnel building.
nnnnThe EX 50 Excavator, housed inside the shield, assists in the
nnnnremoval of obstacles and spoils at the face of the bore between
nnnnthe sand shelves. Operators control this fully steerable, laser-
nnnnguided machine with joysticks and foot controls. For loose
nnnnsoil conditions, optional closeable hydraulic doors prevent
nnnnsubsidence from entering the jacking can.
nnnnLike all Akkerman TBMs, the Excavator Shield is powered by
nnnnhydraulics and guided with a laser system. Excavator shields
nnnnperform with our 5000 Series Pump Units or a multiple cylinder
nnnnjacking system.
nnnnThe Akkerman P600 electric Power Pack, an auxiliary option
nnnnfor power, features three interchangeable power modules
nnnnthat are ideal in any configuration and easy to maintain. The
nnnnelectrical supply is 480VAC 60 Hz (415VAC 50 Hz) and the
nnnnhydraulic reservoir capacity is 600 gal (2,271 L). The P600
nnnnhouses one high-pressure power unit for jacking force and
nnnntwo low-pressure units to power controls in the Excavator
nnnnShield. The P600 Power Pack is remote pendant-controlled by
nnnnthe operator in the launch shaft.
