PIPE JACKING - EXCAVATOR SHIELDS

For 96- 168 inch (2,438 - 4,267 mm) OD tunneling and pipe

jacking applications, Akkerman Excavator Shields are a proven

nnnn

partner. Excavator Shields differ from the Tunnel Boring

nnnn

Machine (TBM) in that they do not have a cutter head or rotating

nnnn

drum, and excavate spoils with a backhoe-type excavator.

nnnn

The excavator and control console easily transfer between

nnnn

different sized shields. Excavator Shields are appropriate for

nnnn

traditional pipe jacking, liner plate and ring-beam and lagging

nnnn

tunnel building.

nnnn

The EX 50 Excavator, housed inside the shield, assists in the

nnnn

removal of obstacles and spoils at the face of the bore between

nnnn

the sand shelves. Operators control this fully steerable, laser-

nnnn

guided machine with joysticks and foot controls. For loose

nnnn

soil conditions, optional closeable hydraulic doors prevent

nnnn

subsidence from entering the jacking can.

nnnn

Like all Akkerman TBMs, the Excavator Shield is powered by

nnnn

hydraulics and guided with a laser system. Excavator shields

nnnn

perform with our 5000 Series Pump Units or a multiple cylinder

nnnn

jacking system.

nnnn

The Akkerman P600 electric Power Pack, an auxiliary option

nnnn

for power, features three interchangeable power modules

nnnn

that are ideal in any configuration and easy to maintain.The

nnnn

electrical supply is 480VAC 60 Hz (415VAC 50 Hz) and the

nnnn

hydraulic reservoir capacity is 600 gal (2,271 L). The P600

nnnn

houses one high-pressure power unit for jacking force and

nnnn

two low-pressure units to power controls in the Excavator

nnnn

Shield. The P600 Power Pack is remote pendant-controlled by

nnnn

the operator in the launch shaft.
