nnnnregenerative turbine pumps
nnnnrepresent the most economical high
nnnnperformance alternative for low flow
nnnn(2 to 38 GPM) applications involving
nnnnmoderate to high pressures (heads to
nnnn2300 feet).
nnnnBy combining the latest concepts
nnnnin hydraulic turbine pump design
nnnnwith precision computer controlled
nnnnmanufacturing, M50 Series pumps
nnnndeliver high efficiency operation
nnnneven at low NPSH. Costs are
nnnncontrolled by efficient manufacturing
nnnnprocesses, use of standard motors,
nnnnand highly optimized pump designs.
nnnnMaintenance costs are kept to a
nnnnminimum by combining an easily
nnnnserviceable design with the use of
nnnnhigh quality components to provide
nnnnlong life.
nnnnWater Passage Design
nnnnMTH masters one of the most critical
nnnndesign considerations of regenerative
nnnnturbine pumps - the shaping of
nnnnwater passageways to achieve
nnnnmaximum capacity and pressure
nnnnwhile minimizing horsepower
nnnnrequirements. By optimizing water
nnnnpassageway cross-sectional profiles
nnnnfor each impeller, MTH improves both
nnnnefficiency and pressure in the M50
nnnnSeries, and exceeds the standards
nnnnrealized by previous techniques.
nnnnImpeller Profile
nnnnOne of the most notable
nnnnimprovements in regenerative turbine
nnnnpump technology, incorporated in
nnnnM50 Series pumps, involves the
nnnnability to determine the optimum
nnnnimpeller width and blade length.
nnnnThese factors have a significant
nnnneffect on the required horsepower
nnnnversus pressure curve for
nnnnregenerative turbine pumps. By
nnnnoptimizing these for each pump,
nnnnpeak efficiency is improved and "off
nnnnpeak" horsepower requirements are
nnnnreduced as well.
nnnnImpeller Blades
nnnnAfter the most favorable impeller
nnnnprofile has been determined for a
nnnnparticular water passageway cross-
nnnnsection, MTH calculates the number
nnnnof blades needed to maximize the
nnnnperformance of that pump. The
nnnnblade design in M50 Series pumps
nnnnincreases both efficiency and design
nnnnpressure without incurring the
nnnnmanufacturing difficulties associated
nnnnwith producing contoured blade
nnnnimpellers. State-of-the-art computer
nnnncontrolled machines simplify
nnnnmanufacturing of the various MTH
nnnnimpellers utilized in the M50 Series.
nnnnThe result is a high performance
nnnnpump providing efficiency
nnnncharacteristics exceeding those of
nnnnmuch more expensive units.
nnnnNPSH Requirements
nnnnM50 Series regenerative turbine
nnnnpumps meet low net positive suction
nnnnhead (NPSH) requirements without
nnnnefficiency loss. This is achieved
nnnnby keeping the inlet fluid velocity
nnnnlow and then gently accelerating
nnnnto passageway velocities. Special
nnnnramps are responsible for this
nnnngentle fluid entry into the impeller
nnnnblades and account for the high inlet
nnnnefficiency of the M50 Series pumps.
