Radiation Shielding Glasses
nnnnProduct Information
nnnnSCHOTT offers a selection of specifically developed Radiation
nnnnShielding Glasses in the density range from 2.5 to 5.2 g/cm3
nnnnfor applications in nuclear energy production and nuclear
nnnnwaste treatment. Two of these five glass types are doped with
nnnnCe02 in order to avoid radiation-induced discoloration
nnnn("browning").
nnnnThe glasses are optimized in terms of high initial transmission,
nnnnradiation, discharge resistance and different shielding
nnnnbehaviour. Customized radiation shielding windows for all
nnnnkinds of nuclear installations can be designed covering a wide
nnnnrange of requirements.
nnnnSCHOTT employs the same production equipment and pro-
nnnncesses as used for the production of optical glasses assuring
nnnnoutstanding high quality standards.
nnnnApplications
nnnnGlass blocks and plates for radiation shielding windows
nnnnto be used in:
nnnn■ Nuclear power plants
nnnn■ Reprocessing plants
nnnn■ Waste treatment facilities
nnnn■ Nuclear research institutes
nnnn■ Isotope production facilities
nnnn■ Glove boxes
nnnnSupply Forms
nnnnRadiation Shielding Glasses are supplied as finished blocks and
nnnnplates (window faces visual grade polished, lateral faces
nnnnground) ready for installation into shielding window frames.
nnnnAdvantages
nnnn■ Superior internal transmission
nnnn■ Outstanding internal quality (bubbles/inclusions/striae)
nnnn■ Different shielding behavior allows custom window design
nnnn■ Enabling designs with very long service lifetime without
nnnnfailure due to discoloration or electrostatic discharge
nnnn■ Improved neutron attenuation in case of shielding windows
nnnnfor concrete walls
nnnnLinear Attenuation Coefficients
