nnnnE-Glass yarns are designed to give
nnnnhigher strength than standard
nnnnE-Glass yarns in applications that
nnnnrequire the ultimate in
nnnnperformance from a low cost fiber
nnnnglass input.
nnnnBuilding on its experience with its
nnnnS-2 Glass® direct-sized products,
nnnnAGY developed the new sizing
nnnnsystem, called 947,that can be
nnnnwoven into fabric and used in
nnnncomposite applications without
nnnnadditional finishing.

nnnnDESCRIPTION
nnnn947 E-Glass direct sized yarn
nnnnconsists of numerous DE-filament
nnnn(6 micron) continuous glass
nnnnstrands, twisted to form yarns and
nnnntreated with a thermally stable
nnnninorganic sizing for high-
nnnntemperature matrices.
nnnnYarns produced with the new 947
nnnnsizing have significantly higher
nnnntensile strengths than their
nnnncounterpart E-Glass yarns coated
nnnnwith traditional oil and starch sizes.
nnnnAnd, because fabrics made from
nnnn947-coated yarns need not undergo
nnnnthe damaging heat treatments or
nnnnother cleaning processes that can
nnnnerode fabric integrity, they can
nnnncontribute considerably more
nnnnstrength to the composite materials
nnnninto which they are incorporated.
