La giusta scelta del toroide awiene in funzione del diametro del foro entro cui devono passare tutti

i conduttori attivi della linea da proteggere e del valore della corrente di dispersione da rilevare.

I conduttori attivi che attraversano il toroide creano un campo magnetico proporzionale al flusso

di corrente. In condizioni normali e in assenza di dispersioni la somma vettoriale delle correnti e

pari a zero. Un' eventuale condizione di guasto provoca una dispersione verso terra su uno o piu

conduttori che viene prontamente rilevata dal trasduttore, il quale collegato al rele differenziale,

prowedera alia messa in sicurezza deH'impianto. I trasduttori di corrente toroidale serie D,

realizzati in abbinamento ai rele differenziali DER3, rilevano correnti omopolari/differenziali disperse

verso terra. Oltre al normale awolgimento di misura della corrente dispersa sono prowisti anche

di un awolgimento di prova in modo da effettuare test reali e non simulati.
