Austep's research team has developed bio-hydrolysis technology that operates the transformation of the organic part of

PROCESS DESCRIPTION

Sludge disposal is becoming more and more expensive, therefore there is the need of reducing the quantity to be

disposed or to improve the sludge quality in order to change its destination (e.g. production of compost).

Austep has developed the CSR process (Complete Sludge Reduction) in order to reduce biological sludge and biomass

volumes. The volatile fraction is removed from the sludge thanks to cell lyses. The rector is fed and operated at

controlled pH, Temperature and retention time.

The cells release water and soluble COD after rupture and the liquid phase is extracted from the system, reducing the

water content of the sludge.

The liquid phase is reach in COD and nutrients and can be used in Anaerobic Digester for biogas production or it can

be treated in a WWTP.

Austep technology allows to obtain high VSS reduction with a very simple and cost effective system, easy to implement

on existing plants.

All applications are carefully evaluated on lab scale and pilot tests are performed in order to give guarantees. Also

possible feedback effects on the existing WWTPs are verified.
