AGY developed the new sizing

system, called 947,that can be

woven into fabric and used in

composite applications without

additional finishing.

DESCRIPTION

947 E-Glass direct sized yarn

nnnn

consists of numerous DE-filament

nnnn

(6 micron) continuous glass

nnnn

strands, twisted to form yarns and

nnnn

treated with a thermally stable

nnnn

inorganic sizing for high-

nnnn

temperature matrices.

nnnn

Yarns produced with the new 947

nnnn

sizing have significantly higher

nnnn

tensile strengths than their

nnnn

counterpart E-Glass yarns coated

nnnn

with traditional oil and starch sizes.

nnnn

And, because fabrics made from

nnnn

947-coated yarns need not undergo

nnnn

the damaging heat treatments or

nnnn

other cleaning processes that can

nnnn

erode fabric integrity, they can

nnnn

contribute considerably more

nnnn

strength to the composite materials

nnnn

into which they are incorporated.
