The beginnings - pipeline construction and pipeline repair
Since 1968 we are at home in the gas sector. At the beginning was the company SÜROWA (Süddeutsche Rohrnetzüberwachung) and the pipeline construction as well as the pipe renovation of the then usual lines of steel or gray cast iron. We were still a long way from gas-fueled technology as we know it today. Therefore, the search for leakage points in the gas network was extremely complex and time-intensive. The main focus of our work was on the management of the pipeline and the construction of new gas networks. With the conversion of most German gas networks to natural gas, which began with the large natural gas foundations in the Netherlands starting in 1972, utility companies faced a new problem: the use of comparatively dry natural gas led to a jump in the frequency of leakage in the supply networks. The steel sockets sealed with hemp knit inserts, with which gray cast iron pipes were connected, slowly dried out.
Pipe repair with elastomers and potting compounds
The quantity and frequency of the leaks could no longer be controlled with the usual methods of exchange of lines or the elimination of leaks by single excavation. During this time many new techniques were tested and applied in practice. These included, in particular, the use of elastomers, Avonseal or the liquid sealant Penetrol.
Development of the first universal gas sensor and gas analyzer
From 1982, the company Schütz + Brocke pipeline construction and pipe network inspection was established. Last but not least, our many years of practical experience have led to the development of our own gas meters. None of the measuring instruments used at that time allowed a comprehensive and qualified test on the basis of the methods used. The regular control of gas lines and the containment of leakage points required considerably more effort and manpower than today. The first pure gas meter, the GM7601 developed as early as 1976, was further developed. A short time later the Universal Gassspür- und Gasmessgerät (GMS3) came onto the market. For the first time, all measuring ranges and procedures (semiconductors, heat-treatment and heat conduction) required for professional work were combined. During this time the company Schütz + Brocke was the sole manufacturer of universal measuring instruments. Over time, the principle of the universal measuring instrument has become a recognized standard in this field of measurement technology.
Measuring instruments from Lahr standard in the industry
The great success of this innovative technology led to the foundation of the company Schütz Messtechnik in its present form. We are still developing and producing universal measuring devices for the gas sector in Lahr in Baden. With the presentation of the first digital explosion-protected universal measuring instrument, the GMS2000, in 1998, the series of innovative products was continued. In the meantime, our "Allstar" GM7601 has become a whole family of products that are used globally by gas suppliers, network operators as well as industrial and commercial companies and which ensure the operational and supply security of gas and water networks. |
