CompactSpec® : Robust Spectrometer System
The CompactSpec is a IP 65 protected spectrometer system capable of withstanding the harsh conditions of process control, field use and a wide variety of agricultural
applications. In combination with NIRON II measurement
head, it is ideally suited for reflectance measurements in
contact mode. tec5 also offers an IP54 protected light
source, which can be used for measurements with passive heads or fiber-optic probes. The key components
of the CompactSpec are the fast, compact diode-array
based spectrometer modules from Carl Zeiss.
These modules are maintenance-free, high-end optical
components without any moving parts. The package can
be customized and offers – besides the multi-channel
feature of the spectrometer system – the possibility to
add various optical measurement heads via light guides
and SMA connector.
Applications
❚ Reaction monitoring
❚ Concentration analysis
❚ End point detection
Application Example
Near Infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) has proven to be a viable
tool for online monitoring of process-relevant parameters
in biogas plants, including the content of dry matter in the
fermenter and other processes influencing metabolites (fats,
proteins, acetic acids, pH value, etc.). In addition, real-time
measurements of quality-relevant parameters, such as dry
matter content of silage, oil content of rape, or protein content of grain can be realized directly on harvesters. Measurements in the visible spectral range allow predictions of the
expected biomass already during plant growth. The evaluation and analysis of the spectra is often carried out by predictions based on chemometric models.
Spectral Ranges
The CompactSpec is based on high-end PGS NIR and MMS1
VIS spectrometer modules from Carl Zeiss. Their outstanding
features include an extraordinary wavelength accuracy and
extreme long-term stability. tec5 electronics provide high signal-to-noise ratio and a large dynamic range. CompactSpec
systems are available with various wavelength ranges
between 380–2150 nm. Available configurations are shown
in the table to the right.
