nnnnMagnetic Drive
nnnnPumps
nnnnMagnetic drive centrifugal pump operation is similar to a standard centrifugal pump except
nnnnthe motor shaft seal is eliminated. Instead, magnetic drive pumps are designed to isolate ^^^^^Hl
nnnnthe wet end of the hydraulic circuit from the motor by driving an impeller and magnet as-
nnnnsembly with a radial or axial drive magnet assembly attached to the motor shaft. Motor torque is transmitted by the drive
nnnnmagnet through a plastic housing that separates the driven impeller magnet from the fluid being pumped. Leaks caused by
nnnnshaft seal failure are eliminated. The end result is a more efficient seal-less centrifugal pump that will not leak and is capable
nnnnof achieving up to 50 thousand hours of continuous duty operation.
nnnnThe impeller shaft and bearing system features an excellent combination of inert materials of construction to handle the
nnnnmost aggressive of chemicals and cooling passages designed to use the pumped liquid as a lubricating coolant. GRI uses
nnnnceramic shafts with either Teflon® or ceramic thrust bearings as standard materials for each magnetic drive pump line.
nnnnThese robust features add tremendously to the chemical compatibility and overall life of the pump to make it virtually main-
nnnntenance free.
nnnnImpellers and pump bodies are designed to produce efficient flow and head characteristics required in today's applications.
nnnnThe hydraulic designs, coupled with motors specifically designed for the pump end, means less power consumption for the
nnnnwork performed.
nnnnTypical OEM applications include film processors, Laser and x-ray cooling systems, medical, scientific, laboratory and
nnnnsilver recovery equipment. Magnetic drive centrifugal pumps must be used where flooded suction conditions exist.
nnnnPump Specifications:
nnnnFlow Rates: Range to 35 gpm (132 Ipm)
nnnnMax. Discharge Head: Range to 53 feet (16 m)
nnnnMax. Fluid Temperature: Up to 250 F (121 C)
nnnnMotors: All motors, except the 15651 series and 18650 series motors which use sleeve bearings, have sealed electric mo-
nnnntor grade ball bearings, are thermally protected, class B insulated, and continuous duty rated. Most pumps available with
nnnnAC or DC motors.
nnnnMaterials in Contact with Solution: Please see GRI website for individual pump series.
nnnnSelection Procedure: Determine the flow and discharge head requirements for your system. Go to our website to view the
nnnnflow rate curves for each magnetic drive pump series. The performance curve characteristics of a pump model may not meet
nnnnthe exact requirements of your application. It may be necessary to throttle the discharge of a pump with more flow or head
nnnncapacity to fine tune the performance.
nnnnFor proper selection of the wetted materials of construction (pump body, impeller, adapter disc, O-ring, impeller bearing)
nnnnplease visit GRI's website to view Chemical Resistance Charts.
