THE VIRTUAL FACTORY
Modelling the Offline Process
Smart Factory Process Improvement models the physical layout of the
production area, encoding important factory layout properties like
functional areas and work‐cells using “virtual zones” with
associated properties. These are linked together through a
logical representation of the Offline test and
verification process to enable monitoring of
expected flow, inter‐step dependencies and
sophisticated process performance metrics.
This digital analogue of the Offline
process allows Smart Factory to
monitor and evaluate spatial and
property‐driven business rules that support both operational and strategic goals.
Production teams are able to better manage day‐to‐day operations through real‐time
performance metrics linked to quality, efficiency and throughput, while quality and
lean management teams are able to quickly consume large volumes of aggregated
process data to highlight process inefficiencies and stability issues affecting optimal
throughput and cost.
Process Improvement extends the search capabilities of Explorer to include
knowledge of both the logical process and active workspaces in the Offline area

NOTIFY AND INFORM
Information How and When You Need It
Role‐driven notifications and alerts provide an important
channel for actionable information distribution, ensuring
vehicle movement, prioritisation and process information is
directed to the appropriate person or group. These can be
sent as either email notifications to assigned users or as on‐
screen notification messages in the web map.
