Plazit has recently developed a new reinforced acrylic acoustic panel with sliver retainer properties.

PLAZCAST SMR (Stainless Metal Reinforcement)
This product was developed to be used with transparent acrylic sheets complying with the European
regulation for installation of acoustic elements along bridges. If a sheet is damaged, the design
prevents slivers falling from it. Falling debris may cause injuriy to persons or vehicles. Regulation EN
1794-2 annex B, specifies the required test.
PLAZCAST SMR classification for the referred test is Class 5/B, which is the best classification that
can be achieved for acrylic sheets.
This new product based on a Plazit applied patent and designed by computerized numeric analysis
proves outstanding performances in laboratory tests.
The sheet design is based on cast acrylic with embedded metal wires. These stainless steel wires,
which can be supplied in rod or cable design are treated to adapt their mechanical properties
according to the mechanical design needs.
Metallic elements in the acrylic matrix show a high contrast helping
birds not to collide with them. Repeated tests made under UV
exposure and water immersion prove that visual contrast does not
fade because acrylic and stainless steel maintain their properties
without UV deterioration or humidity effects under harsh weather
conditions.
Thermal cyclic tests in temperatures from – 50 ºC to 90 ºC have been
performed with no damage to the acrylic metal matrix.
The design is available in two models; either with a combination of
metal wires and metal rods or metal rods only.
Colours shades are easily adapted according to customer request.
Sheets can be cut and bent by regular procedures.
These sheets, as with all Plazit acrylic sheets, are well suited to outdoor applications.
Sheets are supplied from 15mm to 25mm thickness, 3000mm length and 2000mm wide.
