As contemporary, IP-based systems increase in
size, complexity, and geographical dispersal,
system operators need an advanced tool to
control every deployed node. Rather than
attempting to manage the system by
connecting with each element on an individual
basis, PT’s new Element Management System
(IPnexus® EMS) enables system designers and
service providers to rapidly install, monitor, and
simultaneously manage several hundred
network elements from a single interface point.
It allows users to simply, cost effectively, and
efficiently manage their systems through a
point and click interface. This not only lessens
the complexity of system management and
provisioning, but also shortens the time for
failure recovery, thereby increasing system
availability and revenue generation.
IPnexus EMS supports a full set of manage
ment features and is specifically designed to
completely monitor and manage PT’s IPnexus®
MicroTCA® and CompactPCI® ApplicationReady Systems. It is a standalone, turn-key
device that includes all of the hardware and
software needed to provide a highly-available,
centralized, and scalable management system
for up to 200 network elements based on PT’s
hardware. IPnexus EMS can also be easily
configured to manage any device that
supports SNMP or RMCP.
This advanced EMS provides complete
management functionality in the 5 key ITU-T
recommended areas (FCAPS):
• Fault – Provides alarm handling, trouble
detection, trouble correction, test and
acceptance, and network recovery
• Configuration – Supports network
provisioning, dynamic discovery, back-up,
restore, and database management
• Accounting – Monitors service usage to
support bill-for-services activities
• Performance – Report generation and data
analysis
• Security – Access management, authenti
cation, encryption, and access logs
IPnexus EMS supports all required
configuration, fault, performance, and
security management functions through an
intuitive, easy-to-use, browser-based
graphical user interface. It can also integrate
seamlessly into existing and next-generation
Operational Support Systems (OSS) through
its SNMP-based northbound interface.
All of the configuration parameters are
exposed through the use of the built-in,
context-based, SNMP Proxy engine. IPnexus
EMS also allows users to open a secure
connection to managed elements through
the built-in HTTPS Proxy engine.
IPnexus EMS is built on PT’s leading-edge
IPnexus MicroTCA architecture for the
utmost in reliability and performance. The
software is based on PT’s NexusWare® Core
Carrier Grade Linux® Operating System,
ensuring resilent system behavior.
