ServoWire® SM Servodrives
nnnnServoWire SM Servodrives
nnnnServoWire SM230 Series
nnnn• Network Drives: Eight models offer
nnnncontinuous output currents from 2.4 to 60
nnnnamps RMS/phase
nnnn• 600 to 15,000 watts of output power
nnnn• 115 or 230 VAC input
nnnnSee page 22 for specifications
nnnnServoWire SM drives are designed to
nnnnoffer high performance motion control
nnnnusing all-digital servodrives connected
nnnnvia an open standard FireWire network.
nnnnThree series of drives offer solutions with
nnnnpower from 200 to 24,000 watts, and
nnnncontinuous current output from 2.4 to
nnnn60 amps RMS/phase.
nnnnServoWire SM Drives
nnnnServoWire SM drives provide high
nnnnperformance servo operation utilizing
nnnndigital networking technology based on
nnnnIEEE-1394 (FireWire). This networknot
nnnnonly provides high speed, but also ease
nnnnof use through cost-effective, industry-
nnnnstandard cabling. Each ServoWire
nnnndrive supports a variety of high
nnnnperformance, encoder-based
nnnnservomotors. Consult ORMEC for OEM
nnnnapplications of user-supplied brushless
nnnnrotary or linear motors—as well as DC
nnnnbrush-type and voice-coil motors.
nnnnAll ServoWire drives utilize reliable
nnnnIGBT-based intelligent power modules
nnnnand provide a cost effective solution for
nnnntoday's motion control applications.
nnnnServoWire drives operate on DC, 115,
nnnn230 or 460 VAC input power, and
nnnnprovide both output short circuit and
nnnnovervoltage protection.

nnnnServoWire SM 460 Series
nnnn• Network Drives: Six 460 Volt models
nnnnoffering continuous output currents from 5
nnnnto 50 amps RMS/phase
nnnn• 2,400 to 24,000 watts of output power
nnnn• 230 or 460 VAC input bus; 115 or 230
nnnnVAC for logic power
nnnnSee page 24 for specifications
nnnnAll-digital design eliminates the
nnnntroublesome analog interface between
nnnnPC and drive systems, replacing it with
nnnna modern high-speed network based on
nnnnthe IEEE-1394 standard.
nnnnPerformance
nnnnServoWire SM drives combine all-
nnnndigital operation with DSP technology
nnnnto produce fast update rates, and
nnnncorrespondingly high performance. The
nnnnhigh bandwidth control loops in the
nnnnServoWire SM Drives, along with high-
nnnnresolution motor feedback, combine for
nnnnquick and accurate torque, velocity and
nnnnposition control. Position, velocity and
nnnntorque loops are all closed in the
nnnnServoWire SM drives. This distributed
nnnncontrol architecture allows for high
nnnnperformance without placing a heavy
nnnncomputing burden on the SMLC.
nnnnProgrammable Drive Configuration
nnnnServoWire drives have no pots,
nnnnjumpers or field component changes
nnnnwhatsoever. Even factory adjustments
nnnnare digital, automatically calibrated
nnnnand stored in Flash memory. All user
nnnnconfigurations are done in software
nnnnusing axis configuration tools in our
nnnnServoWire Pro software. Motor types

nnnn• Network Drives: Two models offering 3.0
nnnnand 5.0 amps RMS/phase continuous
nnnnoutput currents
nnnn• 200 to 400 watts of output power
nnnn• 24 to 96 VDC input bus; 24 VDC for logic

nnnnstandard products or the custom motor
nnnneditor can be used to add other motor
nnnntypes to the database.
nnnnConfiguration data for each drive,
nnnncontaining motor parameters, all
nnnnoperational limits for torque and speed,
nnnnI/O configurations, load inertia and
nnnnservo loop tuning parameters, are
nnnnstored in the SMLC and can be
nnnndownloaded by the application program
nnnnas needed over the ServoWire network.
nnnnSimple cabling accommodates up to
nnnnsixteen drives per network, and provides
nnnnfor quick and reliable installation.
nnnnStandard Motor Interface
nnnnServoWire drives interface motors
nnnnusing quadrature encoders and hall
nnnntrack information, serial encoders and
nnnnresolvers (optional). They provide
nnnnsmooth output torque using three-
nnnnphase sinusoidal commutation.
nnnnIntegrated Drive I/O
nnnnIntegrating high speed I/O at the
nnnndrive level gives the user greater
nnnnflexibility and tighter control over the
nnnninteraction between motion and
nnnnexternal sensors and actuators.
nnnnExternal sensors can initiate motion
