nnnnMonitor and Control System
nnnnAutomatic flow monitoring to improve quality and reduce
nnnnrejects in industrial drum coating applications.
nnnn■ Detects clogged bottom lid nozzles
nnnnDetects paint flow on "disk application" to coat
nnnninternal drums
nnnnThe Drum Works™ Monitor and Control System is an innovative
nnnneasy to use, modular system for automatically monitoring spray
nnnnguns and controlling nozzle pressure on steel industrial drum ap-
nnnnplications. Providing valuable control and monitoring functions,
nnnnthe system can be used for two key drum finishing operations:
nnnn■ Exterior bottom lid coating is controlled and monitored
nnnnwith the basic DrumWorks technology.
nnnn■ Interior drum coating with a rotary atomizer is monitored
nnnnusing the DFC (Disc Flow Control) function in the Drum-
nnnnWorks system.
nnnnInterior Coating with Rotary Atomizer
nnnnThe new Nordson DrumWorks system also measures the volume
nnnnof paint that flows through a rotary atomizer (or disc) used to
nnnncoat the interior of industrial drums. With the Disc Flow Control
nnnn(DFC) function, the system automatically alerts users of operation
nnnnoutside the desired parameters. Its modular design fits new coating
nnnnlines, and is an easy retrofit to existing systems. The system can
nnnnmonitor one or two internal coating systems.
nnnnMaster Control
nnnnFor both bottom lid and interior drum coating, the DrumWorks
nnnnsystem incorporates an easy-to-use master control. It features a
nnnnmonochromatic touch screen that delivers real-time monitoring
nnnnof settings, performances and alarms throughout the coating
nnnnoperation. This device provides several displays for operators
nnnnto instantly view status of operating parameters, including
nnnn■ Calibration and spray pressure for guns 1 and/or
nnnn2 (additional guns optional) and DFC
nnnn■ Spray time
nnnn■ High/Low pressure band
nnnn■ Alarms
nnnnFive languages can be selected on the touchscreen, including
nnnnFrench, German, Spanish, Italian and English.

nnnnBottom Lid Coating
nnnnThe spray coating application on the external drum lid bottoms is
nnnntypically difficult to control due to the location of the spray guns.
nnnnHere, the guns are typically mounted in a hard-to-access position
nnnnwith overspray accumulating on the nozzle. The result is nozzle
nnnnplugging or restricted flow, which adversely impacts the applied
nnnncoating quality. In addition, because guns are hard to access, it
nnnnalso becomes difficult to determine when nozzles are worn. This
nnnnresults in excess coating application, causing increased material
nnnncosts and quality issues. Drum manufacturers also experience lower
nnnnproductivity and increased costs due to improperly coated drums.
nnnnThe new Nordson DrumWorks System monitors the paint pressure
nnnnat the nozzle (single or dual gun) and automatically alerts users in
nnnnthe event of operation beyond the desired parameters. The system's
nnnnmodular design fits new coating lines, and it is an easy retrofit to
nnnnexisting systems with all models of Nordson* airless guns.
