Rust Grip®
Rust Grip® is a tough, one-part moisture cured polyurethane coating that is patented to encapsulate lead-based paints and other toxic materials (including asbestos).
Rust Grip® is loaded with metallic pigment for strength and is also resistant to chemical solvents and acid splash. When the coating has cured, Rust Grip® provides a protective coating film of superior adhesion and flexibility (resistant to abrasion and impact).
This unique ability is accomplished by the curing mechanism of the base polymer. The coating (having a low initial viscosity) wets the rusty surface, then penetrates to the foundation of the rust's origin where curing begins. Rust Grip® actually becomes part of the substrate, unlike a surface coating which just bonds on top. The polymer literally begins to swell, developing an interlocking network between the pores of the substrate and the coating.
Application Methods:
Primer or as a one-coat system.
Applied over pressure-washed, dry flash rust and firmly bonded commercial paint (In most cases, a white or near-white blasting is not required).
Applied to metal, concrete, masonry and wood substrates. The coating can be applied by spray, roller or brush*.
