nnnntechnology for the sulfur pit. The
nnnn881-NSL has no costly troublesome
nnnnexternal sample line. The analyzer
nnnnmounts directly on your sulfur pit lid,
nnnneliminating sample line plugging, the
nnnnnumber one problem in Claus Plant
nnnnanalysis. The 881-NSL photometer
nnnncombines an extraordinary long lamp
nnnnlife (estimated 5 years!) with many
nnnninnovative features designed to
nnnnminimize maintenance and increase
nnnnreliability. The 881-NSL is equipped
nnnnwith anti-clogging blowback
nnnnfeatures. Any out-of-range condition
nnnnautomatically initiates air blowback to
nnnnclear the sample system. This feature
nnnnminimizes the chance of costly
nnnndowntime by reducing sample line
nnnnplugging. The analyzer continuously
nnnnmonitors itself for proper operation
nnnnand has built-in alarm features.
nnnnThe Need
nnnnH2S is entrained in liquid sulfur as it
nnnnruns into the sulfur pit. Polysulfide
nnnncompounds in the liquid sulfur break
nnnndown with time to release H2S. H2S
nnnnfrom these sources collects in the
nnnnvapor space above the sulfur where
nnnnit could exceed the lower explosive
nnnnlimit. To prevent an explosion,
nnnnmost pits are air purged to keep
nnnnH2S levels low. Compressed air is
nnnnexpensive, and most plants run with
nnnnan excessively low H2S level to be on
nnnnthe safe side. The AMETEK 881 -NSL
nnnnSulfur Pit Analyzer measures H2S in
nnnnthe vapor space above the sulfur pit.
nnnnSubstantial cost savings can be made
nnnnusing this reliable analyzer to control
nnnnthe H2S level giving an adequate
nnnnsafety margin. Some customers also
nnnnwant to measure S02 in the sulfur pit,
nnnnreasoning that the presence of S02
nnnnmay indicate an incipient fire.

nnnnSample line plugging is the number
nnnnone maintenance problem for all
nnnnsulfur recovery analyzers. The 881 -
nnnnNSL is installed directly on your sulfur
nnnnpit lid; sample gas is drawn directly
nnnninto the analyzer and returned to the
nnnnprocess through the same sample
nnnntap. There is no need for a costly,
nnnnheated sample line.
nnnnLong Term Reliability
nnnnMechanical parts will wear and
nnnnreduce analyzer reliability. The 881-
nnnnNSL employs a heated air aspirated
nnnnsample system eliminating the need
nnnnfor moving parts. The detector is solid
nnnnstate with no moving parts.

nnnnthe sulfur pit atmosphere to warn of
