PENETRANT INSPECTION KIT
General Description
The Spotcheck SK-3 Penetrant Inspection Kit is a portable visible penetrant inspection kit that consists of the following:

3 x 400 ml aerosol cans of cleaner – Spotcheck SKC
SKC-S
3 x 400 ml aerosol cans of developer – Spotcheck SKD-S2
1 cloth
1 set of instructions
1 portable carrying case
Spotcheck SKL-SP2 is a solvent removable (or post emulsifiable) red colour contrast penetrant. SKL
SKL-SP2 exhibits
outstanding penetrating characteristics which provide for maximum reliability in locating surface
surface-open flaws and
discontinuities. SKL-SP2 can be used over the entire spectrum of industrial applications, where a visible penetrant inspection
SP2
system meets the requirements for surface-open flaw detection.
Spotcheck SKC-S is a clear colourless flammable solvent used as a general pre cleaner and penetrant remover. SKC-S is
pre-cleaner
ideal for situations where chlorinated solvents are undesirable or prohibited. Its unique composition allows use on a wide
range of substrates to remove oils, greases and other contaminants.
Spotcheck SKD-S2 is a ready to use suspension of white developing particles in a fast drying solvent. SKD
SKD-S2 produces an
opaque white coating, which provides an excellent contrasting background for Spotcheck or Zyglo penetrant indications. SKD
SKDS2 is specially formulated to be low in sulfur and halogens and contains no chlorinated hydrocarbons. SKD-S2 non aqueous
contains
developer provides maximum sensitivity through its solvent action on the penetrant at the defect site. SKD
SKD-S2 is compatible
with and approved for use with SKL-SP2.
Applications
Typical applications include castings, forgings, leak testing, welds and general metal work.
This penetrant system has also been successfully used on non porous ceramics and similar materials. However it is not
non-porous
recommended for the inspection of plastic materials, as it may stain, soften or even dissolve the base material under test.
