nnnnVersatile motion control drives productivity
nnnnToday's automation systems must provide
nnnnthe flexibility and scalability needed to keep
nnnnpace with changing market requirements
nnnnwhile delivering higher speed, accuracy
nnnnand reliability to boost line productivity and
nnnnasset utilization. High-performance motion
nnnncontrol is crucial to enhancing machine
nnnnquality and performance.
nnnnVersaMotion servos are a compact, high
nnnnperformance family of servo drives and
nnnnmotors for small- to medium-sized power
nnnnmotion applications. High-efficiency
nnnnelectronic servos reduce energy costs
nnnncompared to mechanical or fluid power
nnnnmotion solutions while increasing accuracy,
nnnnsystem reliability and machine cycle rates.
nnnnGE's VersaMotion servo drives and motors
nnnnprovide flexible solutions based on specific
nnnnapplication requirements. The result is
nnnnhigher productivity, reduced downtime
nnnnof critical assets and lower total cost of
nnnnsystem ownership.
nnnnPerformance
nnnnThe VersaMotion servo motors offer a high
nnnnlevel of performance in a compact package
nnnnand range from 100 W to 3 kW. To optimize
nnnnperformance, these motors are matched
nnnnwith the VersaMotion amplifiers. Advanced
nnnnfeatures such as dual control modes,
nnnnS-curve acceleration, anti-resonance filters
nnnnand gain switching enhance performance
nnnnfor demanding applications.
nnnnFlexibility
nnnnVersaMotion servos offer the flexibility
nnnnto optimize your motion solution based
nnnnon application requirements. Configure
nnnnsolutions to your exact performance
nnnnrequirements and budget. These versatile
nnnnamplifiers support simple standalone posi-
nnnntioning capability using up to eight stored
nnnnmotion profiles that can be changed over
nnnnthe Modbus interface enabling easy recipe
nnnnmanagement from an HMI.
nnnnFor simple machines requiring only point-to-
nnnnpoint position control the positions can be
nnnneasily configured using the built-in teach func-
nnnntion and no high level controller is required.

nnnnFor more complex applications, multiple
nnnnamplifiers can be electronically geared
nnnntogether or connected to any motion
nnnncontroller using an analog or pulse
nnnncommand interface. The serial interface
nnnnsupports multi-drop system configura-
nnnntions and Modbus communication protocol
nnnnenabling dynamic changing of system
nnnnparameters such as motion settings, gear
nnnnratios, tuning parameters or operating
nnnnmode to respond to changing machine
nnnnconditions or new production runs.
nnnnLower Total Cost of Ownership
nnnnA built-in touchpad and display provide
nnnnconvenient access to configuration param-
nnnneters and system information eliminating
nnnnthe need to connect a PC for simple
nnnnchanges. Once optimized, drive parameters
nnnncan be saved to a file for easy cloning for
nnnnserial machine production, saving valuable
nnnnengineering time.
nnnnGE Intelligent Platforms is committed
nnnnto delivering sustainable results for our
nnnncustomers.
nnnnFEATURE | BENEFIT |
Position Indexing function | • Complete point-to-point motion control right in the drive reduces applied cost for basic motion applications |
Multi-drop communications with Modbus protocol | • Enables recipe management of motion functions from an HM • Allows coordination of up to 32 axes from a host automation controller |
Built-in electronic gearing | • Axes can be electronically geared to a master encoder or another VersaMotion axis. Gear ratios can be changed over the Modbus link |
Dynamic gain switching | • Greatly improves system performance for load/unload applications or applications with wide load variations, allowing for faster cycle time |
Position teach function | • Reduces engineering time required to configure motion profiles • Teaching can be accomplished directly on the drive keypad; no PC required |
Flexible command interface | • Analog command connects to PACMotion or other third party motion controller • Increase performance using the pulse command interface to replace steppers |
