Vitesse delivers first 10 Gbps NRZ 300 km solution for uncompensated SMF
With rising demand to upgrade metro networks to 10 Gbps without using dispersion compensation fiber (DCF), Vitesse
meets the challenge with a suite of ICs ideally suited to this application. At the center of this solution is Vitesse’s single
port electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) CDR, the VSC8240, and Vitesse’s 10 Gbps TIA, VSC7878. Together,
they provide superior performance in environments with heavily degraded optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR), a
critical issue for high-speed optical links. Several other Vitesse devices complete the solution, all benefiting from
Vitesse’s leadership in 10 Gbps transmission.
VSC8240: Single Port 10 Gbps Bidirectional Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) CDR
• Supports SR/LR/LRM module applications
• Compensates for dispersions in both SMF chromatic mode (up to 2400 ps/nm) and polarization mode (over 70 ps
differential-group delay), as well as up to 220 m of FDDI-grade multimode fiber
• VScope™ signal quality monitor provides optimum eye opening, lower BER, and a more accurate, in-line view of
the post-equalization waveform
• 9.9 Gbps to 11.3 Gbps operation, as well as 1.25 Gbps for legacy support
• Compliant with IEEE 802.3aq, IEEE 802.3ae, and SFF 8431 electrical (SFI) specifications
VSC7878: 9.9 Gbps to 11.3 Gbps Transimpedance Amplifier
• Linear operation over the entire input power range of the device
• Enables high volume ROSA assembly
• Provides the best RF match to the photo detector and reduces the component count inside the ROSA
VSC7982: 9.9 Gbps to 11.3 Gbps 50 Ù DML / EML Driver
• 5 mm × 5 mm QFP-N packaging optimized for small footprint applications, such as XFP modules
• Supports both automatic power control and extinction ratio control
