Common beamsplitters are used to split or combine laser beam.
However polarization beamsplitters are used to split or combine
two perpendicular polarization laser beam. The performance of
beamspitters is mainly dependent on the coating specifications.
Beamsplitter Cube
Cube beamsplitters are constructed by cementing two precision right angle prisms
together with appropriate interference coating on the hypotenuse surface. The
absorption loss to the coating is minimal transmission and reflection approach 50%
(average) though output is partially polarized.
