Hutchinson HPP belt, a new belt designed for micro hydro power plants (Presentation of the HPP product and its technical data)0 pages
HPP™
A NEW BELT DESIGNED FOR MICRO HYDRO
POWER PLANTS
HPP™
The HPP™ belt (Hydro Power Plant) is a power transmission belt featuring multiple
longitudinal ribs.
Specically designed for the small hydro power station market, it combines ease of use with high
performance.
Power transmission capacity increased by 15%
LARGE RANGE OF APPLICATIONS
Reduced packaging
With its improved exibility and increased power transmission capacity, the HPP™ belt will more than meet your technical needs.
Reduced maintenance costs
Installations ranging from a few kW up to 500kW whereas the V-belt cannot be used with more than 80kW.
Fast and easy to install
Extended lifetime
Noise reduction
Wide range of applications
Small diameter pulleys (70mm minimum), vs 320mm minimum for a at belt or 125mm minimum for a V-belt.

APPLICATIONS
Pico hydro installations (under 20kW)*.
Micro hydro installations (from 20kW to 500kW)*.
* All types of turbines
Generators are typically asynchronous with 4 to 8 poles and speeds of 1,000rpm and 500rpm respectively, in a 50Hz (50Hz =
50 cycles/second) network.
A power transmission upgrade from a at belt to an HPP™ belt system allows for the retention of the existing large smooth pulley,
to reduce cost.
Hutchinson’s manufacturing process supplies belts of any length, thus allowing the use of standard pulley sizes.
HPP™ belts are widely available throughout Hutchinson’s distributor network. Consult www.hutchinsontransmission.com for your
nearest distributor.

Gear ratios of up to 1/35 (<100kW) and 1/15 (>100kW) vs 1/25 maximum for a V-belt and 1/5 maximum for a at belt.
STRUCTURE
Fabric is embedded
within rib compound
The new construction has been specically designed to reduce
vibrations, noise pollution and maintenance costs.
Aramid cord
Fabric is embedded within rib compound, thus ensuring protection
for the belt from the vast majority of physical or chemical elements and
also enabling use of a wrapping idler.
Rib compound
(BR)
Aramid cord reinforcement throughout the belt width provides correct
tension in the belt once installed and adjusted. Its very high modulus allows the belt to maintain a stable level of tension throughout
its lifespan.
Rib compound (BR): transmits power, yielding 98% eciency. Highly abrasion resistant, thus extending belt life (up to 25 years).
CHARACTERISTICS
The molding process delivers a consistent prole and reduces waste related to manufacturing.
Can be used with a smooth turbine pulley and an ISO 9982 standard compliant ribbed generator pulley.
A simple tension check after 20 minutes of installation run-through is all that is required, no need to adjust tension again during the
belt’s lifespan.
Large transmission ratios.
Smaller wrapping diameters.
Can be used with tensioning device or stepped pulleys.
RANGE OF USE*
The HPP™ belt is available in 2 proles, covering a range of turbines for small applications from a few Kilowatts up to 500 Kilowatts
